One of my 2018 new year resolutions is to pick up the writing habit.
The process of gluing random thoughts before they form a solid idea always fascinates me. And putting something in the written format is a good way to exercising my understanding and articulation on ideas.
However, what irks me most is to choose the right blogging service that works. It’s not easy-pissy. Generally I am looking for blog services in these criteria:
- Services that won’t shut down in 20 years
- Super clean design that’s text-heavy content focused, not media
- Compact – small font and fewer padding
- Adaptive to both long essay and 2~3 sentence snippet
- Easy to archive, find archives, and tagging
- Light navigation
- Light level of code customization
Medium or Tumblr are a bit trendy and I suspect its longevity. Twitter or weibo sounds good for documentation of quick thoughts, but it’s a noisy place (entertainments, followers, ads, rich medias, etc.). Wix or Squarespace are good for image presentation…
Now I am back to WordPress since it’s been there for a long time and still one of the most visited site in the world.
